SYNOPSIS

Set in 1967 Pittsburgh, The Hill follows a groundbreaking team of Black men handpicked to pilot America’s first paramedic unit—Freedom House Ambulance. Against a backdrop of civil unrest, institutional racism, and rapid urban change, these unlikely first responders find themselves on the front lines of both emergency medicine and social revolution.

Led in the field by Lee Watson, a quiet but battle-tested war veteran, the crew includes a street-savvy navigator, a former medic, a green recruit, and a few men still finding their way. Each carries the weight of personal history and trauma, even as they learn to save lives in a system that barely sees them as human.

Mentored from a distance by visionary physician Dr. Peter Baren (loosely based on Dr. Peter Safar), the team responds to shootings, overdoses, fires, and medical mysteries with nothing but basic tools, grit, and a shared sense of duty. But every call is more than medical—it's personal, political, and risky. Together, they’re not just fighting for survival; they’re redefining what care looks like in a city—and a country—on the edge.
